Sewing :Backpack

I want to push my sewing skills by sewing non-clothing items, so when I stumbled on this free pattern on Instagram, I know this will be a great project for me.

This pattern is quite straightforward, but the fact that it’s a German pattern label, makes it harder to understand the tutorials. I did try to translate it, but it took me 2 days to finish the first one. Then for the second one, it only took me few hours (in 1 day) to finish it.

I did wrote my own steps / tutorials for future reference, including the modifications (3 extra pockets) on my sewing journal. The extra pockets really helps to organise the stuff inside the bag.

I love the shape and size of it, it’s not too big for me. It looks quite similar to the famous Fjallraven Kanken bag, but making it by myself, means I didn’t have to spend a hefty amount of money to get that.

It was made from heavy linen that I scored from the scrap bins from my local fabric store; the lining was leftover fabric for my husband’s Hawaii shirt.

My sister really like the wide front zipper opening that allow her to stuff all her school supplies. It’s my go-to travel bag too - it fits my camera, small tripod, books and purse, perfect for light travel bag.

I’m looking forward for more chances to make this bag, maybe in red? Or in different crazy colors?
